Whispering

 

Whispering is a series about life's whispers - those soft, almost elusive moments where time seems to stand still. They are the stories hidden in a glance, a shadow, a trail on weathered paper. My drawings in this series capture that subtle layering, where silence speaks and details take center stage.

 

Her gaze seems to carry a whisper - soft, yet penetrating. Within the faint lines and subtle hues lies a silence that speaks, a moment between disappearance and emergence. The earthy colors envelop her like an echo of something unspoken, a memory hovering on the edge of time. Whispering is the language of what is unsaid, yet felt.

 

The drawings are constructed with graphite, which I use to create soft lines and refined details that evoke the figures' whispering presence. Watercolor serves as a groundwork that allows for this subtle communication, while pastel and conté add depth and nuance without disrupting the serenity. The soft transitions, the almost fading contours, and the delicate balance between appearance and disappearance contribute to the whispering atmosphere.

 

The drawing process was a multi-layered search for that specific atmosphere inherent in whispering - a subtle presence where words are only half-revealed, audible yet just out of reach, like a meaning lingering in silence. In these works, this is expressed in the figures that seem to emerge from the background, as if on the edge of a memory. They hover between presence and absence, like a thought not yet fully heard.

 

While the series as a whole exudes unity, each drawing has its own unique voice. Through subtle variations in expression, nuance, and color, each figure has its own distinct aura of proximity and subtlety, yet an elusive, shared atmosphere remains that connects the works. It is this refined balance between individuality and collective presence that enhances the series' power - each work whispers its own story, yet together they form a whole that amplifies the layering and quiet expressiveness.
